Care & Styling Guide
At Essential Extensions, we want you to enjoy beautiful, long-lasting hair. Proper care and styling of your weft extensions will keep them looking soft, silky, and luxurious for months. Follow these expert tips to maintain their quality.
Washing Your Weft Extensions
How often should I wash my extensions?
- Wash 1-2 times per week to prevent product buildup while maintaining natural moisture.
Step-by-Step Washing Guide:
- Detangle first – Gently brush through your extensions using a wide-tooth comb or loop brush.
- Use lukewarm water – Hot water can dry out the hair and weaken bonds.
- Apply sulfate-free shampoo – Focus on the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding excessive rubbing.
- Condition thoroughly – Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding the weft track to prevent loosening.
- Rinse completely – Ensure no residue is left behind.
- Pat dry with a towel – Avoid rubbing; gently squeeze out excess water.
- Air-dry when possible – If using a blow dryer, apply heat protectant and use a low heat setting.
- Pro Tip: Avoid over-washing your wefts, as this can strip natural oils and reduce longevity.
Brushing & Detangling
Use the right brush: A loop brush, wide-tooth comb, or soft-bristle brush is best.
Start from the ends: Work your way up to prevent pulling and breakage.
Hold the weft track: Reduce tension when brushing near the roots.
Brush daily: Prevents tangling and keeps the hair smooth.
Avoid:
- Brushing when wet (wet hair is more prone to breakage).
- Using a regular brush with stiff bristles that can pull on the weft.
Styling Tips
Heat Styling:
- Always apply a heat protectant before using hot tools.
- Keep the temperature below 350°F (180°C) to prevent heat damage.
- Use a low heat setting when blow-drying.
Curling & Straightening:
- Style gently to avoid tension on the weft track.
- Use ceramic or tourmaline hot tools for better heat distribution.
Products to Use:
- Sulfate-free & alcohol-free styling products
- Lightweight serums & leave-in conditioners
- Extension-safe hairsprays
Avoid:
- Heavy oils near the weft track (can cause slippage).
- Dry shampoos with high alcohol content.
- Excessive heat styling without protectant.
Sleeping & Storing Extensions
Sleeping with Weft Extensions:
- Braid your hair or tie it in a loose ponytail to prevent tangling.
- Use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction and frizz.
Storing Weft Extensions (if removed):
- Brush them out before storing.
- Keep them in a silk bag or storage box in a cool, dry place.
Coloring Your Extensions
Can I dye my extensions?
Yes! Essential Extensions are 100% human hair, so they can be dyed. However, we recommend:
- Using semi-permanent or professional hair dye
- Testing on a small section first
- Having a professional stylist color them
Do NOT bleach your extensions – It can damage the hair.
Longevity & Replacement
How long do weft extensions last?
With proper care, Essential Extensions wefts can last 6-12 months.
Signs You Need a Replacement:
- Excessive shedding
- Frizz or dryness that won’t go away
- Tangling beyond repair
